Ladies Success IN Top Club
18 Jun 2025
In a thrilling nail biting finish Southam ladies exceeded all their expectations and beat a very strong Coventry Avenue by a single shot. Lynne had got Southam off to a great start fighting back from trailing her opponent by changing to a long jack. Having drawn level at 19 all she gained a two on the next end to win 21 - 19. Little did we know just how vital those 2 shots were to be. Next to finish were the pair of Wendy and Velisa who had struggled throughout the game but somehow summoned the skill to mout a fightback and eventually only lost by 2 shots. So at that stage it was one win each and level on shots. The triple of Heather T, Heather B and Sheila had started off well and were leading for some time before the opposition came back and eventually won by 3 shots. So now Avenue were in the driving seat. However over on rink 5 Chris's rink of Chris, Rosalie, Julie and Barbara were going about their game steadily and building up a lead of 8 going into the final ends. By the last end the lead had been reduced to 6 shots and fingers nails were being eaten by both sets of supporters. This meant tha Avenue had to win the last end by 4 shots to win the match and 3 to tie.As the final end developed Avenue hed shot and then made it 2 and needed just one to tie. When the skip faild to draw the the extra shot Chris was convinced that she needed to bowl to her final wood. Howevr upon hearing the loud shoting from the bank to not bowl as they had won match she eventually to all Southam's relief through it away and a magnificent win was had by 1 shot.
